mycya4me @aetris Bandit fell in the fish pond out front as a kitten… He got out so fast it looked like the pond had spit him out!
He’ll come to the edge of the pool if we are in it, but that’s about it.
I stay inside with the AC or floating around on my round float that’s partially submerged in the water! That’s my happy place, it allows me to be ALMOST pain free! 🛟
@Lynnerizer Our previous house in California had a wonderful pool. Floating in it was the only time I was almost pain free too. We tried to find a place with a pool here in Colorado, but it seems only mansions that cost several million dollars have them here. Man, I sure do miss that pool.
@Pony
Aww… Pony I feel for ya! Water is the best therapy for so many things! I was introduced to auqacize (aerobics in water) at 12 years old when I was diagnosed with a pain disorder, RSD now called CPRS. I was the only kid in a class of grey haired ladies but I LOVED it! Even though it wasn’t too cool for my friends to know I REALLY loved the Neil Diamond music that we listened to! And of course my mom came for morale support! This is the first time I’ve lived somewhere with a pool but my mom and her husband had one at their house. My sister just moved a few years ago and the house she bought had one, she switched it over to salt water and she says it’s amazing, she described it as making her skin feel silky. She’s 45 minutes away and I haven’t been able to try it out due to how swollen I get with the heat the last few years but I am excited to.
Have you guys thought about getting a pool put in?
I was surprised how affordable they were (at least in my area) when I was helping my guy with his parents, I ended up staying there for 6 loooong years. It was the above ground that I was thinking about getting but my procrastinating took over while I was deciding how and IF I’d be able to get into it (my fused hip and swollen legs make stuff difficult sometimes) and I was back in my condo with my pool before I knew it! Lol
@Lynnerizer We’ve talked about putting in a pool somewhere, but honestly, there isn’t a really good place for one. We have 20 acres, but everything close to the house is hilly and basically bedrock with a thin layer of dirt over it. I’m afraid blasting out a hole for a pool would crumble the whole area, since it’s mostly sandstone here. Doesn’t really matter, though, there are lots more important projects on the list that we have to get done as we can afford it, so it wouldn’t ever happen anyway. Maybe we can get a hot tub at some point. Better than nothing.
@Pony
Yeah I get it, growing up we lived on rocks and a ledge, we even had a huge rock basement. The builder just left the boulders and built the house around them. He was originally building it with the intent of his mother living there. Lol We’d never be able to have a pool there! It’s great that you guys are doing lots of projects, a distraction is good for pain, and like you said, hot tubs are great too! I hope you decide to try one, my dad turned my sister’s bedroom into a whole spa, his man cave I guess, he’d soak at LEAST once a day and watching his sports/tennis, golf matches and the Red Sox that he’d taped. Gotta love it!
@Ziggie Due to a propensity to either break them or lose them, I’ve always gone for the cheap ones, but those don’t seem to exist anymore. Maybe ZZ Tops cornered the market on those.

@Star2236 I don’t float on any water. Yeah, I’m one of those. I had a swimming instructor once didn’t believe me, told me to take a deep breath and lay over face down, and watched me sink to the bottom of the pool. She was flabbergasted.
Too much muscle, not enough fat. Right? I’ve been working since on correcting that.
I take that back. I did float in the salt water at Surfside at the Gulf. Also stepped on shells, sharp rocks, and broken bottles. Next time, I wore sneakers. (And trunks.)
Anyone ever buy groceries online? Or those meal-prep kits? They usually ship stuff that needs to be cold, so they throw in a bunch of ice bags. You’re supposed to pop them, drain them of their salty gooey water, and recycle their plastic.
I kept all of mine like a hoarding squirrel. Washed them, put them in Ziploc bags, and stacked them in a box in case I need to deliver ice cream to a friend (which has happened on more than one occasion).
Come summer, I have the crazy idea to sleep on a frozen waterbed. I freeze one of these bags and try sleeping on it only to have it stick to me sides. With some experimenting, I’ve managed to have a system of 4 ice packs, wrapped individually in a bath towel, underneath a weighted blanket (or three layers of beach towels) for the really hot nights, or 4 refrigerated ice packs underneath a single towel for moderate cooling.
Sure the fridge has to work a bit more, but it’s less work than what an AC unit would have to do.
All of the above, with my spoiled cat!
@mycya4me
Your cat can swim???
@chienfou @mycya4me Some like it!

@chienfou Hey I can’t even get him even close to a Drop of water, unless it is his water bowl!

Some of the above, as situationally appropriate, plus other measures.

I stay cool by staying inside.
If I wear my sunglasses inside, then I’m obviously even cooler. Especially at night.

@phendrick it’s all about choosing the correct sunglasses. Good call.

I sure wish I had a pool so I could swim whenever I want!
@PooltoyWolf I wish I had a big enough living room or den and a billiards table so I could shoot pool whenever I wanted.
@phendrick @PooltoyWolf
Me too.
Staying cool in the summer is a Environmental impossibility. Not overheating in the summer is staying hydrated
I float in the lake.
